People’s Sexiest Man Alive announcement met with boos

Former “Captain America” star Chris Evans is the new Sexiest Man Alive, People magazine revealed on Stephen Colbert’s “Late Show” Monday. However, the late-night host told the audience that the final votes were down to two candidates: John Oliver, who was in the studio audience, and Evans. When Evans was announced, the “Late Show” crowd actually booed as Oliver — a long time friend of Colbert and a former “The Daily Show” co-star — feigned disbelief and demanded a recount: “Stop the steal!” the HBO “Last Week Tonight” host joked.

Evans joins past People’s Sexiest Man Alive winners like “Avengers” co-stars Paul Rudd (2021) and Chris Hemsworth (2014), but 2016 winner Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson — who is currently filming a movie with Evans — said he wasn’t ready to give up the title. “Am I alive?” Johnson asked Evans. “Am I still sexy?” Evans responded yes and agreed to share the honor.

“Really this will just be a point of bullying,” Evans told People magazine. “It’s ripe for harassment.” The 41-year-old actor also said his mom will be happy (“She’s proud of everything I do but this is something she can really brag about”) and admitted he’s thinking about marriage and having a family, though he wants to keep his private life private.
