Jimin Replaces His BTS Bandmate Jung Kook At No. 1 On A Billboard Chart

Jimin kicks off 2024 with a bang, as he lands yet another No. 1 hit on a Billboard chart. The BTS singer is about to debut on top of a ranking he’s come to know well with a just-released cut, and when he arrives in first place, he’ll replace one of his bandmates in first place.

The BTS superstar earns the first No. 1 hit on Billboard’s Digital Song Sales chart of 2024 with his new single “Closer Than This.” The track is set to open atop the ranking of the bestselling tunes in the U.S. with a little more than 14,000 copies sold, according to Luminate.

“Closer Than This” will take over the Digital Song Sales chart’s throne from another BTS musician. Currently, Jung Kook’s “Standing Next To You” racks up another stay in the penthouse on the ranking, but as 2023 turns to 2024, he dips a few spots to No. 5.

As “Standing Next To You” collected another turn in charge of the sales-only tally, it tied with Miley Cyrus’s “Flowers” as the track with the most frames spent at No. 1 on the purchase-only list. Both tracks managed five stays at No. 1 in 2023.

With “Closer Than This,” Jimin snags his fifth career leader on the Digital Song Sales chart. He scored three of his four smashes (before this latest win) in 2023, which turned out to be the biggest year of his career. He also collected a win in mid-2022 alongside fellow South Korean artist Ha Sung Woon.

“Closer Than This” was the only track to sell at least 10,000 copies in America in the past tracking week. According to data shared by Luminate, the runner-up on the Digital Song Sales chart–which will be published in full tomorrow (January 3)—will be Jack Harlow’s “Lovin On Me.” That former leader sold just under 7,700 copies—about half of what Jimin’s new hit managed.

Jimin released “Closer Than This” as a treat for fans, and to help tide them over while he’s on something of a musical break–though apparently, he has tunes saved up and ready to go. Like the rest of his BTS bandmates, Jimin is currently enlisted in the South Korean military. All men must fulfill their duty to the army in the nation by a certain age, and now all of the singers in the group are getting it out of the way.
