Snow White’s Gal Gadot Spent a Month Preparing for Her Audition

Summary

  • Gal Gadot is excited about playing the role of the Evil Queen in the live-action remake of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
  • Gadot spent nearly a month preparing for the audition, working on her singing skills for the musical.
  • While some controversy surrounds the casting decisions for the film, Gadot is enthusiastic about taking on such an iconic character.

Gal Gadot’s got a poison apple with Rachel Zegler’s name on it. Yes, the actress who so often embodies strength and kindness on the big screen as Wonder Woman is headed for a showdown with one Disney’s most famous characters. Zegler will portray the part of Snow White in the live-action, musical remake of the classic 1937 film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. And Gadot will play the Evil Queen, which is a role she spent nearly a month preparing to audition for.

Gadot said during an episode of Actually Me, courtesy of GQ:

“It was the first time I had to kind of audition for a project in a while. They needed to make sure I can sing because this is a musical. So, for a month I was working on the song, and then I auditioned. And we filmed the song. And I got the part. And it was very exciting.

And it was so much to shoot because it’s so different from anything I’ve ever done. It’s so delicious and delightful, and I could really go big and theatrical. I can’t wait for you to watch this movie.”

While Gadot’s role is the very antithesis of the superhero she’s best known for playing, the new Snow White project had bigger hurdles to leap than casting the mirror-obsessed queen. But even with all the controversy swirling around the decision to recast the seven dwarfs as “magical creatures,” Gadot is still excited to take on such an iconic character.

Snow White’s Gal Gadot is stepping into a role Disney introduced to moviegoers nearly a century ago. But the 1937 film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, finds its origins in the Brothers Grimm folk tale first published in 1812. And while Gadot is ready to take on the acting challenge and all its musical aspects, the actress received mixed reactions from her daughters when it came to playing the part.

Gadot said in an interview with People:

“My middle child was a bit disappointed that I wasn’t Snow White. When I told them I’m going to shoot ‘Snow White’ for [a] month, she was convinced that I’m going to play Snow White. But when I told her, ‘No, it’s the evil queen.’ [Then] my oldest said, ‘Oh, how appropriate.’”

Whether Gadot actually makes Wonder Woman 3 with James Gunn for the upcoming DCU, the actor’s career will always be synonymous with her time spent playing the DC superhero. So, even with the added pressure of having to sing in Snow White, Gadot saw the advantages of portraying the Evil Queen. However, it turns out Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs isn’t the thespian’s favorite Disney flick.

Gadot also said during her Actually Me interview:

“My favorite Disney movie… I’m shy to say was Winnie-the-Pooh. Winnie-the-Pooh was my go-to. I know, I know it’s very for little kids. But it’s just so peaceful and always calm[s] me down.”

The live-action Snow White musical was slated to hit theaters on March 22, 2024. However, the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strikes could push the movie’s release date back.
