On the first episode of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City season 4 reunion on Tuesday, the 40-year-old single mother likened herself to Kim Kardashian while discussing her job as Jen’s former assistant and subsequent casting on the program.
When asked about her connection with Jen, Monica said that she and the imprisoned reality star were previously great friends before their friendship deteriorated into employer-employee and, finally, mortal “enemies.”
Monica described Jen always needing “help” with her “life,” such as collecting her groceries or making sure she was on time to “her freaking meetings for whatever.”
“Now that I know everything, I’m like, ‘Okay, I get it.'” “The things I would do for her made me feel almost like a friend,” she remarked before explaining why she chose a job that didn’t pay. “To be honest, she was a buddy of mine. She required assistance. It didn’t start that way. We were friends initially, so I told her, ‘I can support you until you need somebody.'”
Heather Gay then challenged Monica about her claimed ulterior motivations and “Kim K started out as an assistant and look where it got her, and I’ll start out as an assistant and see where it gets me?” moment, which Monica denied.
“I’d like you to hear something you said, Monica.” “Just for clarity,” Heather said before playing a tape of a voice that sounded like Monica’s.
“Kim Kardashian was an assistant, and look at her now,” Monica allegedly told Heather over the phone. “I can fully admit that the whole reason why I was an assistant and putting up with that s— was as a stepping stone and as a learning experience.”
Monica did not refute Heather’s charges, but she did acknowledge that she tested out for RHOSLC, not expecting to “ever end up on the show.” The author of The Bad Mormon: A Memoir backed up her assertions, speculating that Monica was never a “friend helping [Jen]” but had an “agenda.”
“I didn’t,” Monica stated emphatically. “I had no idea she was on the show when I met her.” To be honest, when I auditioned for the show, I applied just like everyone else here.”
Monica revealed that she sent a message to the casting. “I said, ‘My name is Monica Fowler and your show sucks and your ratings are shit and it’s going to get cancelled because you don’t have the right cast.'”
“That’s exactly what I said. “I’m telling the truth,” she shrugged before revealing the email.
“Reaching out in regards to your casting call!” It said, “‘I’d like more information on what needs to be done or how to proceed.” You need a fiery ex-communicated Latina on the program right away! I’m your woman!’Monica F.”
