HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) – A group of women gathered to prepare snacks for the Perry Central basketball team and their classmates as they prepare to head to Lexington for the boys’ KHSAA Sweet 16.
The Perry County Democratic Woman’s Club put snacks together to create snack bags for the basketball team and their fans.
President of the Perry County Democratic Woman’s Club, Sherry Spradlin, grew up as a basketball mom and said her experience encouraged her to keep making snacks for the Commodores.
“When these kids have to ride a bus two, three hours to go get to an event, they get hungry and it’s expensive,” she said. “We have some wonderful local businesses who are helping to pay for the big things so we just thought we’d all get together, donate a bunch of snacks, and have those for the team.”
There will be five busloads of students, totaling 163 kids, heading to Lexington on Tuesday, and Spradlin said they planned to have enough snacks for everyone.
