Morning Live host Gethin Jones, 43, has admitted he found it difficult dealing with the coronavirus lockdown while living on his own in Manchester. Speaking in an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, the BBC star recalled the city being “like a ghost town” and explained he struggled with having “no real communication with anyone” at the time.
Fortunately, the presenter kept himself busy, using his free time productively by studying for his Masters in Sport Directorship (MSD).
Gethin divulged: “It was tough, wasn’t it?
“Do you know what though? I was really lucky, because I’m doing a Masters.
“So it was kind of weird because I was like a grade A student, because I had all this time to read and do my work.”

However, Gethin was forced to drop out of some of his TV work commitments after catching Covid himself.
The Welsh TV personality was competing in Celebrity MasterChef in July 2020 before he sadly had to leave the series early during the semi-final.
Gethin explained: “I was doing some work like Celebrity MasterChef at the time, and then got Covid myself and had to pull out, but then the Masters sort of kept me going.
“But it was quite hard, I was living in Manchester city centre and it was like a ghost town and there was no real communication with anyone. It was a really odd time.”
The presenter was absent from BBC One’s Morning Live due to his test results.
He was replaced by Rav Wilding and other temporary hosts, including the likes of Strictly Come Dancing stars AJ Odudu and Sara Davies.
Sadly, Covid impacted Gethin’s Christmas plans too.
“Like so many people all over the country at the moment for Christmas, my plans changed overnight,” he told presenters Rav and Sara.
“As you say, I was supposed to get ankle operation today, hence why I’m not with you on Morning Live, and then I had a positive PCR over the weekend which meant the operation was cancelled.”
