Mercer County Democratic Convention held today

MERCER COUNTY, W.Va. (WVVA) – Mercer County’s Democratic Party rallied Saturday at their Princeton headquarters, in the lead-up to the 2024 election.

At Saturday’s convention, party members elected more than 30 delegates to represent Mercer County Democrats at the W.Va. State Democratic Convention set for June.

According to Executive Committee Vice Chair Deb McCarthy, the party elected 31 of 33 potential delegates on Saturday — just short of the goal for full representation.

“The goal today is to elect 33 delegates from the people who are in this room.” She explained. “If we can fill out full state of the delegates and go to the county convention with 33 people representing Mercer County, we have done a good thing here today.”

McCarthy added as of Saturday night, that the party still had one member left to appoint. Members will continue to search for a final delegate up until the ten-day cutoff to appoint.

Following the state convention, party members will then decide who goes on to represent mountain state democrats at the Democratic National Convention in August.
