Corey Lewandowski is back advising Donald Trump‘s presidential campaign, and he’s spreading his boss’ vicious, ugly lie that Vice President Kamala Harris and moms in blue states support killing babies.
It is absolutely false that Democrats are in favor of infanticide. It’s just another vicious lie to demonize women who support reproductive autonomy by a party that wants to control women’s bodies.
“Kamala Harris, who has had a radical position on abortion, many Democrats believe that you can have an abortion not only up until the last week but also in some cases after the baby’s been born,” Lewandowski claimed on Fox News Sunday.
But that is patently false. It’s a trope pushed out by Trump and parroted by his minions to paint Democrats and pro-choice women as evil. First of all, infanticide is completely illegal in all 50 states, and abortions taking place late in pregnancy are extremely rare, and many states outlaw them, especially after the reversal of Roe v. Wade. In 2021, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that fewer than one percent of abortions happen at or after 21 weeks. When abortions do take place later in pregnancy, it is because of a fatal birth defect or to save the life of the mother.
Trump perpetuated this falsehood on the debate stage against President Joe Biden earlier this sunner. “The problem they have is they’re radical, because they will take the life of a child in the eighth month, the ninth month, and even after birth,” Trump lied.
“What Trump is describing is infanticide, which is already illegal, and it is dangerous and insulting to say otherwise,” Rodihan told USA Today. “No abortions take place after birth.”
Rodihan went on to explain that abortions in the third trimester are “often a result of catastrophic medical diagnoses.”
On Fox, host Shannon Bream pushed back against Lewandowski, noting that Democrats “say they absolutely disavow the idea of infanticide… I think everybody agrees that infanticide is illegal and wrong.”
But you can expect more of these kinds of vicious lies from Trump and the Republicans as they become increasingly desperate in the race against Harris, who has a narrow lead in polls nationally and in a number of swing states.
