John Whaite pulls out of Strictly tour after positive Covid test ‘I’m letting you down’ | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

Strictly Come Dancing runner-up John Whaite, 32, has tested positive on a Covid lateral flow test and will miss today’s performances in Glasgow. The Great British Bake Off star is currently awaiting a PCR test to confirm the result, but if it is positive, he will be forced to miss at least five days of performances to isolate.

Despite the positive test, John says he feels “fine” and has had all three Covid vaccines.

He told his 309,000 Instagram followers: “I’ve got a little bit of bad news I’m afraid.

“A lateral flow this morning has come back positive so I now have to sit here in this glamorous captivity – lovely bedhead – until a result of a PCR comes back.

“I’m hoping it will come back negative because I feel fine.

The Strictly cast will perform another show in Glasgow on Monday evening before heading to Nottingham for three shows and finishing at the O2 Arena in London with five shows over three days.

John is not the first of the dancers who have been forced to miss performances on the live tour.

Nikita Kuzmin, who is partnered with Tilly Ramsay, was absent for a portion of the show’s run when he tested positive.

For the first few dates, Strictly favourite Neil Jones had to step in and dance with Tilly while Nikita isolated.

Pro Amy Dowden was also forced to miss some dates after a flare-up of Crohn’s disease which led to her being hospitalised.

The dancer started to feel unwell last Wednesday but continued to push through until her body refused to cooperate.

She told fans on Thursday: “Unfortunately I started to fall ill on the Wednesday [but] pushed through it.

“I was really quite poorly, then, towards the end of the week and on Saturday, I think my body just said no more.

“But due to the amazing care I received in the hospital from the doctors and nurses, I’m back on my feet.”

TV presenter AJ Odudu also had to withdraw from the tour due to an injury she suffered while training for the Strictly Come Dancing final.

The extent of her injury meant she was on crutches and unable to train.

Instead, AJ has been replaced by EastEnders actress and Strictly 2020 finalist Maisie Smith.
