Wednesday star Jenna Ortega took a break from her gothcore fashion marathon for tonight’s Golden Globes, Ortega’s first-ever, and opted for Grecian goddess vibes instead. Ortega is a presenter at the ceremony and a nominee for Best Actress in a TV Series, Musical or Comedy for her performance in the wildly successful Netflix series, which was just renewed for a second season.
On the red carpet, Ortega posed solo, wearing a tan Gucci dress. Her now dark-red hair was styled down and flipped at the end.
Ortega spoke to Netflix’s Tudum at the end of November about her work in Wednesday and how it felt stepping into the iconic Addams Family role and putting her own touch on it as a young Latina actress.
“To give young Latin people someone to relate to on-screen and give them that boost of self-esteem, or relatability and comfort in characters, is so special and so wonderful,” Ortega said. “But [Wednesday is] also for everyone. Everyone should be able to see themselves in anyone.”
Ortega said playing Wednesday was a liberating experience for her overall, on set and off. “It was a very freeing, gratifying experience, because you don’t have to care. If you’re in a bad mood, and you have a stink face, it doesn’t matter,” she said. “She sticks to her guns, and she’s not out to please anybody. Which, as someone who used to be an immense people pleaser, I really respect.”
Ortega briefly reflected on the show’s success on her Instagram on November 29, shortly after it premiered, saying she was about speechless. “Don’t even know if there’s right words,” she wrote. “Thanks everyone for watching.”
