This year’s dress code is “The Garden of Time,” inspired by the 1962 short story of the same name by J.G Ballard. Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Chris Hemsworth, Bad Bunny and Anna Wintour will serve as the gala’s co-chairs while the honorary chairs are creative director of Loewe Jonathan Anderson and TikTok CEO Shou Chew.
The 2024 gala coincides with the opening of the Costume Institute’s spring exhibition, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” and provides the department primary funding for future exhibits, publications, acquisitions, operations and capital improvements. The exhibition will be displayed at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on Fifth Avenue from May 10 to Sept. 2.
The Met Gala holds a long standing tradition of guests arriving in their most extravagant formal wear. Previous year’s dress codes include “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” “In America: An Anthology of Fashion,” “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” “About Time: Fashion and Duration,” “Camp: Notes on Fashion,” “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” and “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between.”
The stream is hosted exclusively by Vogue and will air across its digital platforms, including TikTok and its YouTube channel.
Variety‘s Marc Malkin will also be on the red carpet. Check out his interviews on variety.com and across all of Variety‘s social media platforms, including Twitter, TikTok and Instagram.
