Gal Gadot’s WONDER WOMAN Not Part Of James Gunn And Peter Safran’s DCU According To Hollywood Trade

Will Gal Gadot become one of the few DCEU actors to reprise their characters in the DCU?

If you’ve lost score at home, the important tidbits to remember regarding the current status of Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman is that James Gunn and Peter Safran unveiled the DCU film slate in January 2023 and it was absent a standalone Wonder Woman movie.

Yet, despite that fact, in August 2023, Gal Gadot told the media that she had met with Gunn and Safran and had been assured that she would be returning to the role.

Since then, there’s been a series of conflicting rumors and reports that state that Gadot will be back as Wonder Woman or that she’s out.

Back in September 2023, the ever “reliable” @MyTimeToShine said that Gadot would be returning as Wonder Woman.

However, a new report from Variety affirms that Gunn and Safran, “are creating a new DC Universe and Gadot’s Wonder Woman is not a part of it.

So, who would you believe, Variety or an anonymous, online Twitter scooper?

Moving on, an interesting statement made by Gunn asserted that he’s looking to get Wonder Woman into more animated projects.

We’re working on getting Wonder Woman into more animation. I agree that there hasn’t been enough of her in that area and was one of the first things I brought up to the animation folks, said Gunn via Twitter.

As a soft reboot of the DCEU, the DCU features an ambitious film slate that includes:

On the television side, highly-anticipated projects include:

In other Wonder Woman-related news, Justice League director Zack Snyder recently shared details on a prequel Wonder Woman film that he would’ve liked to see come to fruition, had the DCEU continued.

Titled Wonder Woman 1854, Snyder shared, “My idea for it was that she would travel around the world looking for Ares and she would go to every place where there was conflict.

On those battlefields, she found these lovers, warriors, and they would age out because she is immortal,” he continued.

“They would be her lover for ten years or they might die in battle, and it was probably sad for a lot of the guys because they would see her starting to be nice to the next young soldier and be like, ‘Oh, I’m being replaced.’ But all the guys that she had with her were those loyal warriors she found on the battlefields all over the world.

Unless Gunn has a surprise up his sleeve, the most likely place for Wonder Woman to turn up is in the Paradise Lost TV series for HBO, which is said to be heavily inspired by Games of Thrones.

However, the show is said to be an origin story for the island of Themyscira, so the show might take place long before Diana is born.

Paradise Lost will also take inspiration from three comics, Wonder Woman Historia: The Amazons, Wonder Woman: Paradise Lost (New Edition), and Wonder Woman: Paradise Found (New Edition).
