‘Freaky Friday 2′

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed “Freaky Friday 2″ is in the works with Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis returning to their roles from the 2003 movie. Elyse Hollander is writing the sequel to the Disney comedy about a mother and daughter who swap bodies, though details of the new plot have not been announced.

“Freaky Friday” was based on Mary Rodgers’ 1972 novel, which also inspired a 1976 film starring Jodie Foster and Barbara Harris, and remains the most well-known of the body-swap genre, which includes films like “Vice Versa” and the Blumhouse horror film “Freaky.” The 2003 film, which also starred Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, and Stephen Tobolowsky, grossed $160 million and became a pop culture phenomenon.

“Something really touched a chord. When I came back, I called my friends at Disney and said, ‘It feels like there’s a movie to be made,’” Curtis told the New York Times while promoting “Halloween Ends” last year.

Lohan, who is pregnant with her first child and often seems to be on the verge of a comeback, also told the Times she was open to a sequel: “We would only make something that people would absolutely adore.”
