Elizabeth Berkley Praises Ariana Grande’s ‘Showgirls’ Halloween Costume

Halloween was a week ago, but Elizabeth Berkley is still celebrating – Ariana Grande’s costume inspired by Showgirls.

“This past week, the magical @arianagrande recreated my #Nomi for #halloween with all the love and attention to detail that only an artist with her heart and creative genius could do,” posted Berkley, who starred in the 1995 film.

The caption on Instagram accompanied a six panel post of photos comparing Berkley in the original film to Grande’s recreation. In some of the photos, she is joined by actress Elizabeth Gillies. The pair channeled Nomi Malone (Berkley) and Cristal Connors (Gina Gershon).

“I adore you, @arianagrande and love how you and @lizgillz had fun with #nomiandcrystal in a way that only you two could. When you are from #differentplaces you have to watch your back because when you are wearing,” she added.

Previously, Gillies posted about their costumes. “You are a whore, Darlin’!” Gillies referenced in the caption of a joint Instagram post, sharing images of herself with Grande, recreating multiple looks worthy of the Vegas Strip.

Gershon also gave the pair her seal of approval, sharing the photos to her own Instagram Story. “Haha- amazing- good job ladies!” she wrote.

Directed by Paul Verhoeven, Showgirls has become a cult classic over the years, with Esquire in 2020 proclaiming it a “hate-watch classic.” The erotic drama was given a NC-17 rating for “nudity and erotic sexuality throughout, some graphic language and sexual violence.”

Showgirls initially received bad reviews, won seven Razzie Awards and was awarded the title as the Worst Film of the Decade at the 20th Golden Raspberry Awards. It currently has a 23% rating on the Tomatometer and 37% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
