A year after Doja Cat released her latest album, Scarlet, the title is back. The singer and rapper’s most recent full-length returns to several charts in the U.S. and even manages to debut on one tally, as thousands of fans buying the set made it a hit all over again.
In the past tracking week, Scarlet sold 4,300 copies in the U.S., according to Luminate. That number is up significantly from the period before, when Doja’s hip-hop set didn’t quite manage even 100 sales.
Purchases of Scarlet rose more than 6,500% in just one week. What caused the spike, which made Doja’s project a bestseller once more?
While Scarlet was released in September 2023, it was not made available on every format. The vinyl edition of the title only arrived a short time ago, and wax copies of the album finally shipped in late October. That means all those purchases are impacting the current charts in America.
The vinyl release brings Scarlet back to a pair of Billboard charts this frame. Doja returns her hit-packed set to both the Top Album Sales (No. 14) and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums (No. 36) rankings. It’s previously risen to second place on both of those rosters.
Scarlet also debuts on the Vinyl Albums chart this week. It’s new at No. 5 on the list, earning the Grammy-winning musician her second-ever placement on the tally…and her second career top 10.
In June of 2022, Doja scored her first career win on Billboard’s Vinyl Albums list. Planet Her launched and peaked at No. 2 more than two years ago, and now she’s doubled her wins on the tally.
At the same time, the same set is also soaring on the Billboard 200. Scarlet jumps nearly 100 spaces to settle at No. 95 on the ranking of the most-consumed albums in the country. This frame is special for the title, as it also reaches 52 weeks, or a full year, on that ranking..
