Darius Rucker, Drake, Reba McEntire, Old Dominion lead this week’s new music releases

Darius Rucker returns to his country career this week with a new solo album, joining new releases by Drake, Rick Astley, Reba McEntire, Kirk Franklin, Old Dominion and more. (all subject to change)…

Album of the Week: We’ve waited six years and a Hootie & the Blowfish reunion for Darius Rucker’s eighth solo album, “Carolyn’s Boy” (Capitol Nashville). Named after and dedicated to Rucker’s late mother, whose died before his success in the music industry; her photo also graces the cover, the 14-song set kicks off with the 2020 hit “Beers and Sunshine” (featuring backing vocals by Lady A) and includes 11 Rucker co-writes, including with Ed Sheeran on “Sara.” Other guests include Chapel Heart, John Osborne of the Osborne Brothers and Charlie Worsham.

Album Title of the Week: Teddy Swims, “I’ve Tried Everything But Therapy (Part 1)” (Warner)

Did Ya Know?: It’s been a minute — actually 23 years — since Dogstar has released any new music. So for those who have forgotten, this is the trio that actor Keanu Reeves, playing bass and singing, formed with drummer Robert Mailhouse during 1991 in Los Angeles. It releases its third album, “Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees” (Dillon Street), the follow=up to 2000′s “Happy Ending,” on Friday, Oct. 6.
