NEW DELHI: National vice president of the Rashtriya Lok Dal, Shahid Siddiqui has resigned from his position and party membership on Sunday, citing grave concerns over the undermining of democratic institutions.
”Yesterday I resigned from the position of national vice president of RLD & its membership. Me and my family stood up against Indira’s Emergency & today can’t silently watch undermining of all the institutions which have united & made India one of the great nations of the world.My regards & best wishes to @jayantrld & other colleagues in the party,” Shahid Siddiqui said.

In a tweet, he invoked his family’s history of resistance during the Indira Gandhi-led emergency era and expressed his inability to remain silent amid the perceived undermining of institutions crucial to India’s democratic fabric.
He also extended respect and well-wishes to colleagues, including party chief Jayant Chaudhary.
