– Yuba Sutter Arts & Culture, in collaboration with Yuba College Sociology Professor Dr. Marc Flacks, will present a free screening of the 1954 film, “Salt of the Earth” at 7 p.m. at Sutter Theater Center for the Arts, 754 Plumas St., Yuba City. The film is the inspiration for a project recently funded with a grant from the Upstate California Creative Corps whereby Dr. Flacks will create a live theatrical version of the film to be staged locally in the spring. On the night of the screening, Dr. Flacks will also host a discussion about the relevance of the film and its subject matter to today’s audiences. – The Marysville-Yuba City branch of the American Association of University Women will hold its monthly meeting at 10 a.m. at Hillcrest Catering, 210 Julie Drive, Yuba City. The speaker will be Kelli Evans, a third-generation rice and almond farmer who will talk about her seventeen years of farming in Sutter County as well as her work to preserve pollinator and monarch habitats. – The Feather River Democratic Club and the Sutter County Democratic Central Committee will hold a trivia night fundraiser at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday in Yuba City, organizers said.
While Halloween costumes will be optional, the night will feature a social hour and spaghetti dinner, trivia games and a gift basket raffle. Rose Penelope Yee, a Democratic candidate for California’s Congressional District 1 currently represented by Doug LaMalfa, also is expected to attend. Tom Galvin is scheduled to provide music during the event. The fundraiser will take place at Shiloh Clubhouse, located at 859 Jones Rd. in Yuba City. Tickets are $30 per person. Organizers said checks should be made payable to the Feather River Democratic Club and mailed to P.O. Box 704, Yuba City, CA 95992.
