A series of beloved commercials are making a long overdue comeback.
On Sept. 10, Lipton Brisk Iced Tea announced it tapped singer Doja Cat to revive its signature claymation advertisements. The original ads — which feature celebrities, athletes and icons of yesteryear guzzling Brisk — first delighted viewers in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Now, the “Paint the Town Red” singer takes center stage in the adorable spot.
“I’m known for pushing boundaries and making the impossible a reality, so I was honored to collaborate with Brisk Iced Tea and bring our creative energy to life in a way that fans have never seen me before,” Doja Cat said in a press release. “As a Brisk fan, and someone who personally loves to express my art both visually and sonically, seeing myself transformed into the iconic claymation style was like stepping into a wild, animated dream.”
Doja Cat was photographed in London last month in a Brisk tea-themed outfit while holding an enlarged replica head from her commercial that teased her forthcoming transformation into clay.
In the past, Brisk has featured tiny clay versions of Eminem, Bruce Willis, Ozzy Osbourne and more in their ads.
One commercial starring a claymation Danny DeVito co-stars TODAY anchor Al Roker (in human form). Other spots featured movie stars and singers like Elvis Presley, James Brown, Bruce Lee and Sylvester Stallone as Rocky Balboa.
Doja Cat is the first female artist to receive the claymation treatment in the campaign’s decades-long history.
Julie Raheja-Perera, the general manager and VP of Pepsi Lipton Partnership North America, said in the press release that the brand is excited to have Doja Cat “leading the charge” in the ice tea brand’s return to claymation, and that the new spot reignites “nostalgia for longtime fans while engaging a whole new generation.”
Brisk says it’s also launching an exclusive Snapchat filter that lets fans transform into clay versions of themselves and is hosting two giveaways in honor of the ad.
Customers have a chance to win the one-of-a-kind clay head Doja Cat carried around in London. Separately, they can score signed figurines of the Grammy winner. Fans can enter by following Brisk on Instagram and tagging a friend in the comments with the hashtag #ThatsColdSweepsEntry.
