The Grammys aren’t until next winter, but the eligibility period for the forthcoming show is more than halfway through. That means that many of the albums and songs that will end up nominees–and then winners–have already been released and have taken over the world…or at least their corners of it.
Ariana Grande is likely to be a major nominee at the 2025 Grammys, thanks to her latest era. The singer is headed for several nominations in a number of categories, and one that seems certain will help her make history and match the all-time nominee.
Eternal Sunshine, Grande’s latest project, is a likely candidate for the Best Pop Vocal Album Grammy. It’s already being touted by some as a frontrunner for the honor, but it’s still very early days to be picking a champion.
If Grande earns another Best Pop Vocal Album nomination, she’ll tie Kelly Clarkson for the most chances to win this piece of gold. Clarkson has thus far collected six nominations, while Grande has five to her name–but that total doesn’t include Eternal Sunshine, so it will likely increase in a few months.
Clarkson has won the Best Pop Vocal Album Grammy for her full-lengths Breakaway and Stronger. She has also lost twice as many times as she’s been named the winner, as her projects All I Ever Wanted, Piece By Piece, Meaning of Life, and Chemistry were all losers in this field.
So far, Grande has only won Best Pop Vocal Album once, though she’s had plenty of chances to take home more hardware. The pop superstar’s Sweetener was named the choice by voters in this competitive field, giving Grande her first Grammy years ago. She’s also been nominated for My Everything, Dangerous Woman, Thank U, Next, and Positions, which didn’t win.
Eligibility for the 2025 Grammys is set to close on August 30, 2024. It opened on September 15, 2023. Nominations will likely be announced in November or December of this year.
