Travis Scott’s highly anticipated album Utopia hit the ground running, with massive streaming numbers that suggest it is on its way to some major starts on the Billboard charts. The rapper’s collaboration with Drake, “Meltdown,” is doing exceptionally well, and it seems to be setting the stage for another No. 1 debut on the Hot 100.
Utopia’s release has been met with immense enthusiasm, and the album is on track to claim the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 albums chart next week. With 19 songs featured on the set, “Meltdown” stands out as the most popular and promising contender for a high debut on the Hot 100.
After just one day of availability, the single opened at No. 1 on Spotify’s U.S. chart, racking up close to four million streams. Scott completely dominated the streaming platform’s ranking, claiming the top 19 most-played cuts in America on the day Utopia dropped.
As days passed, “Meltdown” maintained its position at the No. 1 spot on Spotify’s daily American chart, amassing over 10 million plays on the platform alone in its first four days of availability.
To put that figure into perspective, the current leader on the Hot 100, Jason Aldean’s “Try That in a Small Town,” dominates the tally with just under than 31 million streams, including plays from a number of platforms, not just Spotify. Scott and Drake’s “Meltdown” has already accrued more than 10 million plays on Spotify alone in just half a week.
By the time the song’s first full tracking frame has passed, it’s likely that it will launch on the Hot 100 with a massive streaming figure–likely enough to make it the most-streamed in the nation, and certainly much higher than the 10 million figure that’s already available to see.
The Hot 100 chart incorporates not only streaming data but also sales and radio play. While sales and radio data are yet to be revealed, the early streaming figures give “Meltdown” a strong chance of securing a No. 1 start on the chart. If it achieves this feat, it will mark Travis Scott’s fifth No. 1 and Drake’s twelfth, adding to their impressive track record of chart-topping hits.
