Versace has launched a multiyear partnership with Clooney Foundation for Justice in support of the Albie Awards, also known as The Albies. The collaboration was celebrated by Donatella Versace on Thursday during the second annual ceremony held at the New York Public Library in New York City. The event was hosted by Amal and George Clooney, who established the foundation in 2016.
The new partnership brings Versace as a lead partner for the Albie Awards over multiple years. “I am truly honored to be supporting my friends Amal and George Clooney with Versace’s donation to the Albies,” Donatella Versace said in a statement. “I am incredibly inspired by the way that Amal and George work so tirelessly to make this world a better place and fight for those that champion justice globally.”
The second annual Albie Awards was hosted by Amal and George Clooney, who established the Clooney Foundation for Justice in 2016. Viola Davis, Alicia Keys, Meryl Streep, Andra Day, Julianna Margulies, Anne Hathaway and other celebrities attended the event. The Awards, named after Justice Albie Sachs for his pivotal role in ending apartheid in South Africa, celebrate individuals who have worked for justice at all costs.
As a partner for the event, Versace dressed many of the night’s attendees. Here, WWD takes a closer look at some of the guests wearing Versace at Thursday’s awards ceremony.
Amal Clooney
Amal Clooney wore a minimalist but elevated beaded white gown. She accessorized with Cartier jewelry, including diamond pendant ear clips, a high jewelry watch and a diamond panthére ring.
Anne Hathaway
Anne Hathaway’s look for this year’s Albie Awards was fresh off Versace’s spring 2024 runway from Milan Fashion Week. Hathaway opted for a green and silver diamond pattern dress with a floral lace appliqué pattern on the bodice. She paired the dress with metallic silver shoes with a bow accent. She completed her look with diamond jewelry from Bulgari, for whom she is a brand ambassador.
Alicia Keys
Alicia Keys, who performed at the event, donned an edgy black dress that featured a corset bodice and a beaded skirt with a thigh-high slit. She paired the dress with pointy-toe thigh-high boots.
Cindy Crawford
Cindy Crawford opted for a magenta gown with a lace detail bodice and thigh-high slit. The dress was accented by the house’s signature safety pin motifs in silver, and she completed the ensemble with strappy metallic silver sandals.
Viola Davis
Viola Davis wore an elegant light purple gown with an asymmetrical shoulder strap. The dress was half smooth satin and half ruched and pleated fabric for contrasting detail. The actress was accompanied by her husband, Julius Tennon, who wore a classic black tuxedo.
Colman Domingo
Colman Domingo donned a sparkling glitter black tuxedo. The actor opted for a head-to-toe black look, also sporting a black tuxedo shirt, bow tie and glossy black shoes. The actor is a few weeks away from his movie “Rustin” about civil rights leaders Bayard Rustin premiering in theaters on Nov. 3.
Phoebe Gates
Phoebe Gates has long followed in her parents Bill and Melinda Gates philanthropic footsteps. While attending this year’s Albie Awards, she opted for a black column gown with embellished sheer sleeves and neckline detail. She paired the dress with classic black pointy-toe heels.
