Ariana Grande was “Defying Gravity” on the red carpet for the Opening Ceremony at the Paris Olympics on July 26, wearing pink and white brogue-style stilettos with a blush-colored gown from Thom Browne.
Channeling her inner Glinda, the “good witch” she plays in the upcoming “Wicked” film, Grande wore a high-neck pink dress with a fitted top and flaring structured skirt; the gown was adorned with a bow at the waist. With a timeless sensibility reminiscent of Audrey Hepburn or Grace Kelly, the “Eternal Sunshine” singer wore white gloves and an elegant bow in her blonde hair.
Grande coordinated her footwear perfectly with pink and white pointed heels. The shoes adapted the design of a brogue, with perforations along the pink leather and dainty white laces on the vamp. The white heel was designed with a curved silhouette, reminiscent of many Thom Browne shoes.
Grande has leaned into the Glinda look in recent months, wearing a pink gown and matching Jimmy Choo heels to the Oscars in March; she slipped on white Jimmy Choo pumps with a pink dress in the shape of a flower at CinemaCon in April.
Grande posed outside the Eiffel Tower alongside her “Wicked” co-star Cynthia Erivo, who was also drawing sartorial inspiration from her character, Elphaba. She wore a strapless emerald green gown in a striking satiny fabric with a voluminous skirt, wide-brimmed hat and glossy green pumps.
The Paris Olympics have already brought about several memorable fashion moments. Snoop Dogg wore custom gold Skechers while acting as torchbearer on July 26; also a torch bearer, Pharrell has been demonstrating his love of Adidas while in Paris; and Tyla captivated audiences at Louis Vuitton’s Prelude to the Olympics party in multi-textured over-the-knee boots.
