Ariana Grande’s Brother’s ‘MAGA’ Message Goes Viral

Ariana Grande’s brother said he’ll be reclaiming “MAGA” as a slogan from Donald Trump supporters, in the hopes of making America “GAY Again.”

The satire social media account Poo Crave (@Poo_Crave) on Monday joked that YouTuber and Broadway star Frankie Grande had been chosen as Kamala Harris‘ running mate on X, formerly Twitter. The account is a parody of Pop Crave, an X account that shares pop culture news.

The post included a photo of Grande with Harris at a Pride month reception in 2023. In partnership with GLAAD, the event was held at the vice president’s home and included LGBTQ icons such as RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Sasha Colby, Queer Eye star Bobby Berk, singer Dove Cameron and Oscar winner Ariana DeBose.

Harris confirmed on Sunday that she planned to “earn and win” the Democratic party’s nomination after Joe Biden exited the race.

In response to the Poo Crave post, Grande said he “humbly accepts” the position, re-sharing the photo of him and Harris.

“I will be reclaiming MAGA as MY slogan and we shall Make America GAY Again. Thank you,” the 41-year-old dancer wrote in the caption, alongside the American flag and Pride flag emojis.

At the time of publishing, Grande’s post had received 4 million views. Newsweek has reached out to Frankie Grande for comment via email.

Many people loved the idea of Vice President Frankie Grande, with one X user commenting: “Oh i am so voting.”

“Lmaooo yasss,” said Christian Styles.

“*Squeals and claps in gay,*” wrote @BeySwifty,

“Iconic,” said @angepov, while Bella Loves Sarya commented: “#MakeAmericaGayAgain all the way!!!!”

“Make the rainbow colored hat that says, ‘MAGA,'” proposed Casey Smith. “It’s time to shine!”

However, others didn’t find the joke as funny, suggesting the actor should “delete” the post.

“Frankie get behind me, they gon get u for this….” commented @CHIH1RO.

“Don’t get them started,” agreed Janelle.

“God help America,” wrote @Si_duan.

“I bet y’all don’t wanna vote for Kamala now,” said Weasel.

Alongside Grande, several celebrities and key Democrats have thrown their support behind Harris, including actor George Clooney, singer John Legend, comedian Kathy Griffin, Senator Elizabeth Warren and California Governor Gavin Newsom.

What Does MAGA Mean in Politics?

The acronym “MAGA” was popularized by Donald Trump during his 2016 campaign run and stands for “Make America Great Again.” The slogan also refers to the former president’s fanbase, who are known as MAGA supporters.

Although many Trump voters use the abbreviation to refer to themselves, the term is also used pejoratively, such as the variation “MAGAt” (a play on “maggot”).

Despite being associated with Trump, the phrase was first used by Ronald Reagan in the 1980s.

The former president used the slogan in his first presidential campaign run. However, Trump told The Washington Post in 2017 that he came up with the motto in 2012, after Mitt Romney lost the election to Barack Obama. At the time, the real estate magnate was still pondering a presidential run of his own.

However, Trump first used the phrase in 2011. After declining to moderate a Republican debate, the business mogul said in a statement: “I must leave all of my options open because, above all else, we must make America great again.”
